Numerous woodcut illustrations, printed in black, and white of figures, furniture, 66pp; some worming in upper margin of some leaves.

Watanabe Gentai was the son of the painter Watanabe Shinsui (1720-67). He studied under his father, Bincho and Nakayama Koyo, but also took in the flower-and-bird paintings of the Nanpin school. He became a Buddhist monk and took the name Gentai. This work is influenced by a respect for Chinese painting and features a number of seals. From an early French collection with note written in ink inserted.
