"The Sunday Times" published a series of sensational articles revealing that Lawrence had periodically subjected himself to beatings during the years after the First World War. This book published in 1969 was translated into more languages than any other Lawrence biography. The translation rights were sold for a considerable sum at the 1968 Frankfurt Book Fair, even though little of the book had been written.
