*Sir Robert Arthur Arnold [1833-1902], radical politician and writer, undertook this journey when he resigned as editor of the The Echo, soon after the newspaper was purchased by the rogue Baron Grant. He and his wife went to St Petersburg then travelled south to traverse the Caspian sea. They rode the whole length of Persia, more than one thousand miles. The last copy sold at auction was from the Robert Burrell collection and made £350.

*Vincent L. Bradford was the cousin of Margaret Gellibrand (nee Bradford). He visited the Gellibrands in London and in the summer of 1872 Margaret went back to America on board the same ship as her cousin.
