Half-title, dedication leaf to the king, 3 folding engraved maps, 161 engraved plates after Jean Michel Moreau [1714-1814] by Jean Louis Delignon, Charles-Etienne Gaucher, Heinrich Guttenberg, Jacques-Philippe Le Bas, Pierre Gabriel Langlois, Antoine Romanet and others, each consisting of large vignette with a description below; marginal tear in last plate repaired.
Work undertaken to illustrate the early history of France whose production was interrupted by the French Revolution. The last plate, number 164 is King Jean being taken prisoner in 1356. Presumably the three maps take the place of the prints which would have appeared in their position.
