Poetry which captures the way of life of an agricultural worker. The author, former army officer and anthropologist, recalls in his introduction, "Most of the material for Blood Earth & Medicine has been gathered over the last ten years in Dorset and Somerset, with occasional forays over the border in Devon and Wiltshire, an area approximating to, the old Kingdom of Wessex. I wanted to live life in the raw, and so in a sense my lifestyle was dictated by the nature of the land, as well as a few chance encounters. The time which I had spent abroad in mountainious regions had impressed upon me the fundamental importance of agriculture and the deep relationship that should naturally exist between people and the land. . . What interested me was the work and the way in which it influenced people's lives & their thinking."
